Corporate History

J Joseph Zappone founded his company in 1969 after observing on a trip to Europe that copper performed and looked better over a long period than slate or tile on European roofs, which are designed to be permanent. His product used an interlocking system which allowed for expansion and contraction without affecting fasteners. The Zappone shingle is, according to the company, the bestselling copper shingle in the U.S., with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation using it as its copper roofing material of choice.

Product Lines

Zappone products include Copper shingles, which feature a 4-way interlocking system and a patina process which improves protects the metal while improving appearance with age; Copper Scallop shingle, designed for small facades, dormers, and decorative turrets; and Aluminum shingles, which are lightweight, designed to absorb the noise of rain, wind and hail, and made with UV inhibiting paints. Aluminum shingles are available in 6 colors.

Environmental Impact

Zappone, specializing in copper and aluminum roofing, use what they consider green building materials. Copper and aluminum can both be recycled, and their shingles are made from recycled copper and aluminum. Many of their copper components are recycled in North America. Zappone claims almost all copper mined is still in use today. They company also claims 75% of aluminum produced since 1888 is still in use, and 95% of aluminum from buildings is recycled.

Warranty

Zappone shingles are covered by a 50-year warranty against defects in original material and manufacture. A completed warranty registration must be received within 30 days of installation for the warranty to be valid. The warranty can be transferred if Zaponne is notified in writing within 30 days.
