BP Shingles

Building Products of Canada Corp. (BP) manufactures residential asphalt shingles, underlayments, waterproofing membranes, and other building products. Saint-Gobain acquired BP in September 2023, so descriptions of BP as an independent, privately held company are out of date.

Corporate History

BP traces its history to Building Products Ltd., founded in 1925. Imperial Oil acquired the business in 1964, and Emco acquired it in 1987. The company adopted the Building Products of Canada name in 2007.

Saint-Gobain’s 2023 financial statements record the completion of its BP acquisition on September 1, 2023. BP continues to market roofing products under its established name.

BP Certified Roofers

BP maintains a Certified Roofer network. Certain enhanced Weather-Tite warranty options require a BP Certified Roofer to install specified BP or CertainTeed system components and follow the current application and registration requirements.

Certification does not replace normal contractor checks. Confirm licensing where required, insurance, recent references, the written scope, ventilation and flashing details, cleanup, payment terms, and the contractor’s workmanship warranty.

Residential Shingle Lines

BP’s current technical library lists Signature, Everest 42, Mystique 42, Vangard 42 IR, Yukon SB, and Dakota shingles. Product and color availability differ between eastern and western markets.

• Laminated shingles: Signature, Everest 42, Mystique 42, and Vangard 42 IR use layered construction and product-specific dimensions, wind terms, impact ratings, and color offerings.
• Three-tab shingles: Yukon SB and Dakota are traditional three-tab products, subject to regional availability.
• Weather-Tite system components: BP offers starter shingles, underlayments, eave protection, and hip-and-ridge products for qualifying roof systems.

Features are not uniform across the catalog. Match the contractor’s quote to the exact regional data sheet, application instructions, standards, and warranty.

Environmental Information

BP says its LaSalle and Edmonton roofing plants are working toward zero waste. The company reports that some shingle waste goes into paving asphalt or serves as fuel for cement plants, and that its Edmonton plant operates a paper-recycling depot. These corporate initiatives do not establish the life-cycle impact of a particular shingle. Ask for product-specific environmental documentation if it affects your purchase.

Warranty

BP warranty terms depend on the product, owner, building, region, installation date, and installation method. The company’s 2026 eastern limited warranty gives eligible owner-occupied single-family installations limited-lifetime terms for Vangard, Signature, and Mystique and a 25-year term for Dakota. Other owners and building types receive defined 40- or 50-year terms for the listed laminated products.

“Limited lifetime” describes a contractual period tied to an eligible owner. BP states that it is not a durability estimate. Coverage includes product-specific up-front and prorated periods, wind speeds and durations, algae terms, transfer rules, installation requirements, and exclusions. For example, the standard warranty excludes damage caused by hailstorms and improper installation.

Obtain the warranty issued for the exact product and region. Keep the invoice, contract, bundle labels, installation date, and photographs in case you need to transfer the warranty or file a claim.
