Polyglass Roofing Products

Polyglass U.S.A., Inc., part of the Mapei Group since 2008, manufactures modified-bitumen roofing and waterproofing membranes, roof coatings, underlayments, and related products for low- and steep-slope applications. The company is certified to ISO 9001:2015 and operates five U.S. manufacturing facilities, with its U.S. headquarters in Deerfield Beach, Florida.

Company History

Polyglass traces its roofing-manufacturing roots to Italy in the 1960s and introduced products and technology to the United States in 1992. Mapei acquired Polyglass in 2008. The U.S. headquarters moved to Deerfield Beach in 2010, Polyglass acquired KM Coatings and added a Phoenix facility in 2014, and the company opened its fifth U.S. manufacturing plant in Waco, Texas, in 2017. Contractor Program

Polyglass currently offers Registered, Preferred, and Quantum contractor tiers. Depending on the tier and current program rules, benefits can include a contractor listing, Club Premio rewards, training, marketing support, access to specified warranties, warranty-submission tools, an advisory council, and other incentives.

Continuing Education

Polyglass offers continuing-education opportunities recognized by the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Formats can include in-person or virtual courses and selected plant tours. Course availability, location, and credit must be verified for the current offering.

Product Lines

Polyglass products and technologies include:

• APP and SBS modified-bitumen membranes: Reinforced roofing membranes for specified multi-ply and other approved systems.
• ADESO self-adhered technology: Dual-compound membranes designed with a self-adhering lower layer and a product-specific upper surface.
• CURE Technology: A proprietary thin-film system using ceramic microspheres, ultraviolet stabilizers, and resins on specified cap sheets.
• Roof underlayments: Self-adhered and other underlayments for specified steep-slope assemblies.
• Elastomeric and asphaltic coatings: Acrylic, silicone, reflective, protective, and maintenance products for approved substrates and systems.
• Cements, primers, adhesives, and accessories: Complementary products with application requirements that vary by system.

Performance claims such as reflectance, stain resistance, granule retention, walkability, or energy effects apply only to named products and test conditions. Use current data sheets, listings, specifications, and installation instructions from the Polyglass product library.

Cool-Roof and Environmental Claims

Selected Polyglass membranes and coatings have published solar-reflectance data and Cool Roof Rating Council listings. Cooling results depend on the exact surface, climate, insulation, roof assembly, aging, and maintenance. Check the current CRRC listing and applicable code requirements for the specified product.

ENERGY STAR no longer certifies roof products. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency sunset the category on June 1, 2022, so older claims that a current Polyglass roof product “has the ENERGY STAR rating” are obsolete. See the EPA roof-products archive.

LEED certifies projects, not individual products. Product documentation may help a project team evaluate particular credits, but a roof product should not be described as LEED-certified or universally LEED-compliant. Product-specific environmental declarations are more useful than undefined terms such as “environmentally friendly.”

Warranty

Polyglass warranty terms vary by product, complete roof assembly, project, contractor status, inspection, installation method, and application. Current offerings can extend beyond 20 years; some documented systems have 30-year terms. A project must qualify for the specific warranty issued, and “warranty” should not be treated as a service-life guarantee.

Before work begins, obtain the proposed system specification and current warranty document. Confirm covered materials and labor, maintenance, inspections, exclusions, transfer rules, claim procedures, and whether an approved Polyglass contractor is required.
