TAMKO Roofing Shingles

TAMKO Building Products LLC is a family-led manufacturer of residential roofing shingles, steel shingles, waterproofing products, and roof accessories. The company is headquartered in Joplin, Missouri, and manufactures products at facilities in the United States.

Company History

E.L. Craig started the business in an old Joplin streetcar barn in 1944. His wife, Mary Ethel Craig, named it TAMKO from the first letters of the states in its anticipated sales territory: Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma.

The business became TAMKO Roofing Products in 1994 and TAMKO Building Products in 2006. Ethelmae Craig Humphreys, the founders’ daughter, served as chair and later chair emerita. She died in 2021. TAMKO’s published leadership now lists her son David C. Humphreys as chairman, president, and chief executive officer. See TAMKO’s official history and leadership page.

Asphalt Shingles

TAMKO’s current residential catalog includes Heritage® laminated shingles, Elite Glass-Seal® three-tab shingles, and performance-focused products such as Titan XT®, StormFighter FLEX®, and HailGuard™. Products, colors, and manufacturing locations vary by region. Use TAMKO’s current product catalog and confirm local availability with a distributor rather than relying on an undated fixed list.

MetalWorks Steel Shingles

TAMKO also markets MetalWorks® steel shingles in AstonWood®, StoneCrest® Slate, and StoneCrest® Tile profiles. The current product data sheet describes G90 steel construction, a PVDF finish, a four-way locking system, and product-specific fire, wind, and impact classifications. Those classifications apply only to the listed assembly and installation. Local availability may require a job-specific order.

Contractor Program

The TAMKO Edge® is the company’s current contractor platform. It includes Team TAMKO and Pro Gold, Platinum, and Diamond certification levels. Depending on the tier, contractors may receive training, business tools, rewards, lead-generation resources, and eligibility to offer specified enhanced limited system warranties.

TAMKO Pro Certified Contractors are independent businesses, not TAMKO employees or agents. Certification does not guarantee workmanship. Homeowners can use TAMKO’s contractor locator to confirm current certification and ask which enhanced warranty, if any, applies to the proposed roof system.

Warranty

Warranty terms depend on the product and purchase date. TAMKO states that its current laminated or architectural asphalt shingles carry a Limited Lifetime Warranty, while Elite Glass-Seal® carries a 25-year Limited Warranty. Product tables also distinguish the non-prorated Full Start® period, standard and high-wind application limits, wind term, algae-cleaning term, and transfer rules.

MetalWorks technical material states a 50-year Limited Warranty with a 25-year Full Start period. Read the document that applies to the product and retail-purchase date. Check material and labor remedies, tear-off and disposal, workmanship, transfer, prorating, required accessories, ventilation and application rules, wind and algae coverage, and exclusions. Warranty length does not predict roof life.
