Landmark Architectural Shingles

Landmark is a family of laminated architectural shingles made by CertainTeed, a Saint-Gobain subsidiary. Builders use Landmark shingles on homes and some non-residential steep-slope roofs. Warranty terms differ by product, owner type, and application.

Company History

CertainTeed began as the General Roofing Manufacturing Company in 1904 and adopted the CertainTeed name in 1917. Saint-Gobain took majority control in 1976; CertainTeed became wholly owned in 1988. Saint-Gobain reported 2016 sales of €39.093 billion in its 2016 registration document.

Landmark Product Lines

A CertainTeed Landmark Series brochure lists Landmark, Landmark PRO, and Landmark Premium at about 235, 250, and 300 pounds per roofing square. A roofing square covers 100 square feet. The brochure describes each as a two-piece laminated fiberglass shingle.

CertainTeed also sells other Landmark variants, including products designed for impact resistance, cold-weather flexibility, or solar reflectance. Contractor Credentials

CertainTeed offers individual education credentials, including Master Craftsman® Shingle Quality Specialist™ and Master Craftsman® Roofing Contractor. Roofing companies may qualify for ShingleMaster™, ShingleMaster™ PRO, or ShingleMaster™ PREMIER status.

Recycling and Solar Products

CertainTeed says it is developing systems to reclaim post-industrial and post-consumer shingle scrap for uses such as hot-mix asphalt. Its roofing sustainability page describes the current program.

The company also sells roof-integrated solar products. Energy production and emissions effects depend on the system, roof, shade, local electricity mix, and household use.

Landmark Warranty

As of this update, CertainTeed lists standard Landmark shingles with a lifetime limited transferable warranty for eligible residential applications, 10-year SureStart™ protection, a 25-year StreakFighter® algae-resistance warranty, and a 15-year 110-mph wind-resistance warranty. CertainTeed lists a higher wind-warranty option when installers use qualifying starter and hip-and-ridge products.

“Lifetime” is a defined warranty term, not a service-life guarantee or a promise of full replacement cost for as long as the roof exists. Read the warranty for the exact product, owner type, installation requirements, transfer rules, exclusions, and remedy.
